Training
ICE & FIRE s.r.l. delivers specialist training programmes for gas distribution and management companies and utility network operators: from mandatory worker training to advanced seminars for emergency response managers and technicians, from gas leak detection to emergency management in confined spaces. All courses meet the obligations of Italian Legislative Decree 81/2008 (Consolidated Safety Act) and the technical standards of the Italian Gas Committee (Comitato Italiano Gas — CIG) and the Regulatory Authority for Energy, Networks and Environment (ARERA, formerly AEEG).

Foundation worker training is structured according to company risk level, pursuant to Articles 36 and 37 of Italian Legislative Decree 81/2008 and the State-Region Agreement of 21 December 2011. Specialist programmes for gas companies comply with the Italian Gas Committee (CIG) Guidelines Nos. 4, 7, 10, 14, 15, 16 and 18 and ARERA Resolution ARG/gas 120/08 on the quality of gas distribution and metering services. Seminars for managers cover emergency management, emergency intervention plans, historical incident case studies, and criminal, civil and administrative liability. The advanced leak detection course addresses the chemistry and physics of combustion, gas dispersion inside and outside buildings, in sewers, ducts and tunnels, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and the management of large-scale leaks. The periodic maintenance module includes virtual reality simulations for the application of network isolation and repair procedures. The stress management module trains operators to maintain clarity and operational effectiveness in scenarios involving natural gas and LPG in confined environments.

Fire safety training is delivered pursuant to Ministerial Decrees of 3 September 2021 (Nos. 1, 2 and 3), which replaced the previous Ministerial Decree of 10 March 1998. The programme covers the chemistry and physics of combustion, prevention and protection measures, fire detection and alarm systems, evacuation procedures, and practical drills with extinguishers and fire hydrants. For companies handling combustible gases, fire risk is typically classified as high (Level 3).

Training of first aid personnel is mandatory pursuant to Ministerial Decree No. 388 of 15 July 2003. The company classification into Group A, B or C is determined by the ATECO sector code and the number of employees. Gas companies typically fall within Group A (high-risk industrial activities). BLS-D courses qualify personnel to use the automated external defibrillator (AED) while awaiting emergency services.

Gas network operators frequently work in potentially contaminated or confined spaces: inspection chambers, ducts, pressure reduction cabinets and underground plant rooms. Training is mandatory pursuant to Presidential Decree No. 177 of 14 September 2011 and Article 66 of Italian Legislative Decree 81/2008. Courses cover the classification of confined spaces, atmospheric monitoring (gas detectors, explosimeters, Oâ‚‚ analysers), respiratory protective equipment (RPE), harnesses and retrieval systems (tripod), emergency procedures and injury management. The complexity of the site determines the duration and content of the programme.

The maintenance and extension of gas networks frequently involves operations on road surfaces in the presence of traffic. Training is mandatory pursuant to Ministerial Decree of 22 January 2019 and Articles 21, 37 and 161(2-bis) of Italian Legislative Decree 81/2008. Courses cover sector road traffic regulations, analysis of risks from traffic interference, procedures for placing and removing road signs, management of fixed and mobile worksites, entry and exit manoeuvres, and emergency interventions.
